Your Son’s First Workout

You have realized the importance of fitness and you want that to be inherited by your son. As he enters mid-teens there is a fair chance that he might become inclined towards gyming and working out-thanks to the awareness and trend around being fit.

It is extremely critical for him to get the right direction and who better to be his initial guide than his own father. It is very important for him to choose the right form of workout for his age and body type so that he makes a lifetime commitment to fitness. If he is not directed well, he would end up doing exercise he think are critical, which might be injurious to his health, hence it becomes all the more important for you to be a guide and suggest how to initiate a fitness regime.

Getting your teenage start his workout:

Go for minimal or no weights:

When you son hits the gym he needs to adapt to various neuro muscular occurring and need to perfect his patterns in the first place. If he starts using weights heavy for his body he might develop uneasiness, go in for wrong postures and end up stressing and hurting himself. Try and use light (10 pounds) or no weights at all depending on their fitness levels.

Proper form and posture:

Post the mastering of the right technique by your teen make sure he practices them for at least 2 weeks before taking up more complex exercises. He might get tempted with the idea of taking heavier weights but you need to tell him to perfect his movements and posture first. As heavy weight develop muscles but a proper posture is important for overall health and fitness.

Monitor as you add more weights

Once the form has become better you can add 5-10 pounds depending on the condition of your teen. It is better if you stress on more repetitions (around 15) than higher weight. Avoid him getting focused too much on weight training as it might hamper his growth.

Once your son is 17-18 years old, he can take weight training in full swing (you definitely need to consult your physician before making your teen take up any drastic form of exercise).

Proper Nutrition

Make sure he realises the importance of healthy eating also for a fit and healthy life. He should try and eat mini meals throughout the day which are rich in protein and healthy fats.

Make sure you guide him about the disadvantages of fast food and make him realise how they can ruin his diet and exercise regime.
