Working Out During Flu

When you stay bedridden and down with a flu, you can gain weight without even knowing it. When you are ill with anything but stomach flu, you can eat a healthy meal.

Eating a healthy meal is also advised as it helps you recover from flu better. You might be tempted to have comfort food when you are ill. This might be harmful for you if you want to lose weight.

Many people don’t know that working out can actually help you ease the symptoms of cold and perk up your health. Though flu might not really affect your diet it might affect your workout. When you have flu, your energy levels dip down, you have throat congestion and other symptoms related to cold and flu, which might actually keep you off workout for long. This will not only have a negative effect on your weight loss efforts but would also lower your morale and motivation. Hence it is extremely critical to start working out once your energy bank allows.

Experts believe that if you sweat out cold with your workout, it is going to do you good. A study also shows that people with cold are capable of working out. Hence if you want to go ahead and exercise with the flu symptoms and you can even push yourself.

When you exercise during cold your body will release a chemical (adrenaline), which will be beneficial for your system. This actually is used as in ingredient in many medicines to treat flu; so by exercising you get a natural shot of this medicine, this will help in reduction of swelling and nose stuffiness.

If you think that by being down with flu, you get a chance to stay without exercise, think twice. If your energy level allows you to exercise, get up and moving, and you will be feeling better after the workout. Make sure you keep your diet on track and don’t give up working out for many days at a stretch.
