August 10, 2009
We are constantly asking ourselves about the foods that are required for good health and that are also effective in weight loss. But because most of us have the tendency of following diet plans we tend to skip some of the most essential food that can do a lot of good to our health.
Our desire to look thin and attractive has reached such a level today that we have even altered our eating behaviors. And I am sure people don’t even remember what a food pyramid used to be, forget talking about its significance!
But there are certain foods called ‘wonder foods’ that are not just good for health but also for weight loss. Carbohydrates top the list of the wonder foods. There have been many diet plans that restrict the consumption of carbohydrates as they can lead to weight gain. But the fact is that carbohydrates provide our bodies with energy and hence cannot be avoided.
There are certain parts of our body like the nervous system, kidneys that would require constant supply of carbohydrates for developing energy. Now how much carbohydrate a person can have will depend upon the amount of calories already taken by the person and also on their age, metabolism, the amount of physical activity done by them and their body type.
All these factors help in determining the amount of carbohydrates that a person should have. Some of the most beneficial carbohydrates are brown rice, barley, millet, wheat berries, bulgar, farro, quinoa, whole wheat, couscous etc. It would help greatly if a person includes at least some of them in their diet. The next wonder food is natural food items.
These include fresh fruits and vegetables. But most of us today like snacking on to nuts, crackers, jelly and so on which are full of fat and high calories. If a person is keen on losing weight then they would certainly be able to tell which one should be included in their diet.
It is also advised to include those foods that have a lot of fiber content in them. That is because fiber foods generally slow the process of digestion which only means that a person can feel full for a longer period of time. This prevents them from overeating. Apples and oatmeal are some examples of fiber food. In case of carbohydrates there are two types that a person can choose to take. One is complex carbohydrates and the second one is simple carbohydrates.
Complex carbohydrates like whole grains and vegetables take a lot of time to digest as they have fiber content in them. On the other hand simple carbohydrates like most processed foods are very easy to digest and also speed up the metabolism process. Thus, these are some of the wonder foods that a person should incorporate in their diet chart to not just experience healthy living but also succeed in losing weight effectively.
