Weight Loss Goals for Kids
September 7, 2009
It is very easy to see when your kids are overweight; what is difficult is to keep them on track and help them lose weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Help the overweight kids:
Make sure your kid understands the importance of healthy lifestyle, nutrition; make sure they remain active across the day. This is a great advice for adults but with kids you need more than just simple knowledge and daily activity.
Their weight loss goals have to be more specific, they have to be constantly advised on what to eat and how much to eat.
Setting the initial Goals:
Experts suggest that kids should be set extremely simple first step and that should be “not gaining any more weight.”
As your child grows taller s/he would become leaner and the problem might be solved; but this method works for people who are a little overweight and not for kids who are obese. Once they have maintained their weight, you can suggest weight loss to your kids as the next step.
To make sure your kid doesn’t gain the 3 pounds a month they regularly do, make sure you work on the calories you need to cut from their diet and work their eating plan accordingly.
Make sure you enroll your child in some physical activity class of around 30-40 minutes a day, so that s/he is regular with his/her exercise.
Make sure you are sure your child avoids aerated drinks, sugary stuff and junk food as these are the biggest culprits when it comes to childhood obesity.
Weight Loss Goals:
The next step is setting a modest goal of losing around 1-2 pounds a month. Once they start losing weight slowly, aggressive weight loss goals would be easier to accomplish. They can try to lose around 2 pounds in a week.
Monitor the progress of your kid to support and encourage him. Set regular appointments with your physician and dietician.
Maintain a strict control on the calorie intake, especially when it comes to snacks. If you can’t be strict, try to maintain a dairy to record the calorie intake.
Steps you need to follow:
If no weight gain appears as a very tough initial weight loss goal, then try to start with lessening the weight gain on a month on month basis.
Support healthy diet and weight rather than emphasizing on slimming and crash dieting.
Not just the kid, but your entire family should be encourages to eat healthy and be more active.
