Tips for Safe Biking

Biking is one of the best ways not only to lose weight, get fit and enjoy the outdoors. Like any other form of exercise you need to be careful while biking. Listed below are some tips which would help you ride your bicycle safely:

Not all bikes suit you: The rider should choose a bike based on their sex, height, weight etc. Take expert advice before picking up the bike that suits you. The seat, handle bars and saddles should be adjusted as per your need else you can damage your back, neck and arms.

The right helmet: You should be sure that you select the helmet which is of high quality while riding your bike. This is extremely good for your safety. While choosing your helmet make sure it has been certified safe under government standards.

Road Rules: There are many other vehicles on road besides yours be sure you follow traffic rules and avoid any injury, accidents, traffic jams etc. Needless to say follow the path for bikes and adhere to the traffic lights. While with bigger vehicles, make sure you use hand signals.

Bright and Visible cloths: You should wear clothes which are bright not just to make a fashion statement but to stand out and be visible. You can also raise visibility by using reflectors or headlamps.

The Posture should be Right: If you maintain the right posture you can lessen discomfort and injury in the long run. The grip on the handlebars shouldn’t be tight but relaxed remember to change your position frequently. Remember to stretch before biking, focus on your hamstrings, quads and gluts this also increases your flexibility. Take up stretching to strengthen your back which would be good for biking.

Remain cool and hydrated. Carry a bottle or two of water which you can frequently drink to keep yourself from dehydration. Have small sips and don’t wait to get thirsty. Remember to wear light clothes and cover your head with a scarf before wearing a helmet.

Proper socks and shoes. Try wearing rigid sole biking shoes to avoid foot injury, remember to wear socks which soak sweat.

Maintain your bike. Remember to take care of your bike like any other vehicle, make sure you check the tyres, peddle, seat, handle bars etc.

Weather. Avoid biking during rain and humid weather.
