When the body fat of a person becomes excessive, to such an extent that it starts having adverse affects on their health, then such a medical condition is referred to as Obesity. What determines whether a person is obese or not is their Body Mass Index (BMI).

A person is termed obese if their BMI exceeds 30 kg/m2. Thus, obesity cannot be taken lightly in any case. Obesity is the beginning of multiples of other diseases namely heart disease, diabetes, breathing trouble, particular type of cancer, genetic problems and so on.

What causes Obesity?

It is quite difficult to tell the single reason that causes obesity. Like, how there are different other diseases that an obese person is exposed to, there are various reasons that leads to obesity. One major reason is that not many of us lead an active life. Hectic schedules of people and their dependence on gadgets that make life easier for them sprouts the beginning of this life-threatening disease.

Lack of exercise, lack of physical activity and eating way beyond control are the other reasons that lead to obesity. Lack of proper sleep can also cause obesity. In fact, even depression can lead to obesity. That is because some people when they discover that they have gained excessive weight over a period of time start eating more to hide their disappointment and fear. Stress can also cause obesity.

Improper Balance of Energy

A crucial point, which most of us are ignorant about is that, lack of proper balance of energy present in one’s body. You see, weight is balanced by the amount of calories that a person takes in daily and the energy that the person uses in carrying out other activities like jogging, breathing and so on. Now, if this balance is not maintained than a person starts suffering from obesity.

How to deal with obesity?

Knowing that a person is obese can break them down completely. However, that is certainly not the right way to fight this problem. A positive attitude is a must in fighting obesity. Dieting and exercising are must for any obese person. Everything should be done under the strict observation of a physician. Sometimes the problem of obesity is so dangerous that surgery needs to be performed to reduce the bowel length.

Obesity can be genetic also. Therefore, a person cannot be callous about this. Seeking assistance from a doctor will help in devising the correct treatment method, thereby enabling in faster recovery. Optimism, encouragement and support from family members and will-power of the patient can really help an obese person get back to leading a normal life. One must remember that health cannot be taken lightly in any case. Otherwise, you will have to pay a very heavy price for it.
