The Coconut Diet

The coconut diet is built upon a theory that traditional populations that munch through a diet that is rich in coconut oil hardly faced any problem with weight gain or obesity. Moreover, people whose main diet includes coconut or coconut products such as coconut oil are likely to free from many chronic diseases that are common in the western countries.

Many research and studies have claimed that the fats derived from the coconut products are metabolized in a different way as compared to other fats. Fats from coconut are processed for instant energy instead of being stored as fats in our body. Coconuts products also help in pumping up the metabolic rate. Moreover, it posses several health benefits that helps in improving antiviral effects, thyroid function, and digestive issues.

Coconut oil is also considered as negative calorie food, which means that to burn coconut oil our body needs more calories than actually derived from the food. For example, hypothetically one gram of coconut oil carries 10 calories, so to digest that one gram our body burn 12 calories. In this case our body spent extra two calorie, this helps in losing weight.

Four Phases of The Coconut Diet:

First Phase: This phase lasts for twenty one day and dieters are allowed to have three meals in a day with one or maximum two snacks per day. It emphasize on intake of vegetables and lean protein. Foods that are strictly prohibited in this phase are fruits, sweets, and grains.  The coconut diet claims that during this phase participant can lose easily up to ten pounds in twenty one days.

Second Phase: This phase is for cleansing purpose and is focused on the use of several cleansing drink based on fiber and vegetables that are tailored to detoxify and clean the internal system.

Third Phase: In this phase healthy carbohydrate are introduces and participants are allowed to eat few fruits, whole grain and small amount of starchy vegetables.

Fourth Phase: This is the final phase and designed especially to maintain the weight loss. This phase increases the lost of allowed food, still some foods are still prohibited. Dieters are advises to completely avoid foods such as alcohol, sweets, even some fruits are not allowed in this phase.

Recommended Foods

In every phase of coconut diet it is recommended to have 2-3 tablespoon of coconut oil daily. You can have coconut oil by including it in sauces, salad dressings and into smoothies.

Recommended Exercise

Dieters are recommended to undertake 15-20 minutes of aerobic and resistance training daily.
