Pritikin Diet Plan

The recent diet fad that has garnered the attention of many people is the Pritikin Diet. This diet plan focuses on low-fat food and completely eliminates products like pasta, potatoes, animal protein, white bread and any other kind of fat.

Basically it eliminates food that is high in calories. It would not be wrong to call pritikin a vegetarian diet as it gives a lot of emphasis on fruits, vegetables, whole grains and other non-fatty items. Anybody reading this will easily say that pritikin will be very effective for weight loss because of its elimination of non-fatty products.

Now there are some positives and some negatives of this diet plan. Let’s see both sides of the coin well and then leave it for the prospective dieters to make their decision. The pritikin diet was earlier designed for the treatment of heart diseases. It is only later that it started getting recommended even for weight loss. Now the reason why pritikin diet is effective for weight loss is because it is a great combination of healthy foods like vegetables, fruits etc. There are no fatty items in a Pritikin diet. Also unlike other diet plans this one does not ask people to watch how much they are eating.

What really is the point in focus here is non-fatty food. As long as the person is consuming food that is low in fat and calorie it does not really matter how much the person is consuming. Another great advantage of the pritikin diet is that it is very good for the heart. Therefore besides losing weight people are even ensuring that their heart is in good shape. Now let us look at the negatives of the pritikin diet. It is not possible for everyone to live on a diet that only has fruits and vegetables. Some people may find it difficult to live on such a restricted diet.

This could make some people give up the plan in the middle itself. It is not possible for everyone to cut on their fat content. Those who give in too easily to their temptations should not consider taking this plan. Also what a person is required to eat in a pritikin diet contains a lot of fiber which can produce lot of gas. This can get very uncomfortable and embarrassing for the dieters. Also it is not a very feasible option for those who eat out a lot. The pros and the cons of this diet have been mentioned very clearly to you. Now it completely depends on the dieter whether they would like to continue with it or not.
