Obesity Can Be Risky For Pregnancy

It is one of the most crucial and beautiful moments of one’s life when a women goes through the phase of being pregnant and becomes a mother. Women across the globe know that obesity increases a lot of health related problems, but they might not be aware that being obese when you conceive your child can also pose many problems during pregnancy.
The risks that are posed because of your obesity on pregnancy are numerous, that is the reason why women are advised to shed those extra pounds before becoming pregnant.
As mentioned being obese causes a lot of problems during pregnancy, if your BMI is around 30 or more you are seen as an obese person. Here it is worth mentioning that BMI isn’t the only indicator as some people with high BMI are healthier vis-a-vie others; still they are at the risk of many healthy problems. Pregnancy during obesity might turn out alright but one is advised to lose weight before conceiving.
You are more prone to develop Diabetes during your gestational period if you are obese and pregnant. Few women have a kind of ovarian syndrome, where they develop resistance for insulin, this again leads them to gain weight. These women tend to develop diabetes in the second phase of their pregnancy. Generally gestational diabetes is tackled with and goes off post delivery, still this can pose problem on both the mother and child if it isn’t tracked properly.
Another problem called Preeclampsia is quite a common problem with obese mothers-to-be. This can pose a lot of problem if it isn’t tracked and dealt with. It causes blood pressure to rise and fluid retention in your body. This might become very severe as the expectant moms might carry water in their legs and feet. If it isn’t treated and controlled it can restrict blood flow in our body, this can also be harmful for the baby.
Women who are obese tend to be at a high risk of Caesarean section.Obese women who are expecting have hard and slow labour; this can cause fetal distress; which makes caesarean mandatory. Caesarean can cause infection which can pose problems for the baby and mother.
Obese women can also have problems in the development of foetus.
The risks mentioned above can happen to healthy women as well, but when you are obese you become more prone to these health related problems during pregnancy.
