Nutrition and Diabetic Diet
Diabetes is a health condition when the body is unable to process blood sugar level. Having diabetes doesn’t mean that one have any right to lick delicious food but the thing is that a diabetic person must be careful regarding nutrition and diet. Some nutritionist says that there is no specific diet for the diabetic but one must pay attention to the intake of carbohydrate in the diet plan. Diet must have fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Diet should be rich in nutrition and low in fat as well as calories. Healthy eating is helpful in keeping the blood sugar level in control.
A prescribed diet for a diabetic person is a low fat diet. Diet must have 25-30% of fat contents, 20% of protein and 50-55% carbs. In breakfast, patient should take half cup of grapefruit, half of the bowl of oatmeal which is seasoned with low fat milk and some honey as well as flaxseeds.
Between breakfast and lunch a snack break should be taken. One can eat a kiwi fruit as a snack. In lunch he/she can take rice or chappati with some chicken strips. An orange, cucumber or any of seasonal fruit can be taken along with it. Soluble fiber is good for the diabetic person and it can get with any fruit or vegetable. It is also helpful in absorption of sugar.
Crisp bread can be taken as a mid afternoon snack. Peas and spinach can be a nutritious dinner item. You can also take a glass of white or red wine or a glass of juice along with it.
Patient of diabetes 1 must take 35 calorie per kg of body weight. One, who has type 2 diabetes, should take 1500-1700 calories per day to maintain the weight of body. The calorie intake depends on the sex, age and weight of the person.
