Low Fat Food Can Make Us Overweight

Being overweight, obesity is a severe problem in Americans. According to a recent study by the American government department, two out of three American are overweight.

One of the primary reasons for being overweight is that we eat more and exercise less. There is no second thought about the fact that the more advances we make to make our life easy the heavier we become.

Hold on! What about the low fat food that we eat now? How come I am still gaining weight when I have reduced fat intake in my diet?

There is a simple answer to it. A few years back we became conscious of harmful effect of the fat in our food. And what we do? We started concentration in lowering down the cholesterol level and taking fat out of our diets.

This is actually a good thing. However, a study by National Center for Health Statistics revealed that though Americans have reduced their fat intake but they are still overweight and packed with extra pounds.

Now you may ask that how can this be possible? Well, there is no mystery. In the course of counting fat, we forgot about counting our daily calories intake! Many of us bought in to the theory that if it is low-fat it will not make us fat. WRONG!

You actually cannot overlook or forget about counting our daily calories intake. If we eat extra calories then our body will store these calories as fat. It hardly matter whether the calories we had are from carbohydrates or fat.

One school of thought suggests that having fewer amounts of fat can keep you away from over indulging on total calories. This theory believes that fat causes out body to turn out a hormone that instruct the intestines to mellow down the emptying process.

This way you can feel full and will keep you away from overeating. Having a small amount of peanut butter with rice cake can satisfy your hunger for a longer period, consequently preventing you from eating more than you need.

Cutting fat without weight loss can actually increases triglyceride levels and decreases HDL (high density lipoproteins), the good cholesterol that helps protect against heart problems and diseases.

It can be concluded that while excess fat is not healthy, fat is also not necessarily a bad thing. Without some fat in our diet, the body will not make nerve cells and hormones or absorb some of the fat soluble vitamins.
