Lose Weight with Vitamin D

Many of us must have tried some or other way to reduce weight. Some opt for fad diets for quick weight loss, where as some religiously follow their diet and exercise routine. It’s very important to be aware of things that will help you in losing weight properly.

Are you aware or even thought that Vitamins helps in losing weight? Yes! Vitamins help in weight loss. Vitamin D is a wonderful natural weight loss agent. So do you get sufficient vitamin D? Our skin derives vitamin D as it gets exposed to the UV light. Many researches in the USA and Europe have concluded that by receiving more of Vitamin D, while following diet, helps in weight loss.

Apparently Vitamin D has become a hot topic among weight loss experts and dieters since the deficiency of Vitamin D is so extensive and now it’s linked to weight loss, depression, diabetes, osteoporosis and even cancer. Vitamin D is a precursor hormone that helps in building a powerful steroid, calcitriol, in our body. Calcitriol supports in breakdown and building up of healthy tissues which keeps us fit and well. Vitamin D also works with hormones and nutrients in our body to support healthy renewal of bones.

In view of the fact that Vitamin D is involved in absorption of calcium, hence it plays an important role in regulating our body weight. According to a study conducted in Minneapolis byUniversity of Minnesota, thirty eight obese people were kept under calorie restricted diet for close to eleven weeks, with participants vitamin D levels checked after and before.

This study found that most of them were lacking Vitamin D, but those on the higher level has lost more weight as compared to those whose Vitamin D level were lesser. Apparently people who lost weight, most of the weight loss were from belly and lower back.

Now its petty clear that Vitamin D plays important role in weight loss, but now the question is how much Vitamin D we need. Well some studies recommended that an average adult requires around 3000-5000 IU per day. However, Food and Nutrition Board of US says that even 2000 IU per day is sufficient for an average adult.
