Iron Supplements and Weight Gain
There are many reasons that can lead to weight gain. Sometimes it’s because the person is eating high-calorie food or sometimes it could be because of some genetic problems.
Weight gain can also arise due to lack of exercises or because of some side effects on consuming some pills. Sometimes weight gain can also arise as a result of taking some iron supplements. But the reality is that iron supplements do not lead to increase in weight gain.
As mentioned earlier weight gain can arise due to a number of factors. Generally people suffering from anemia or low iron can feel extremely fatigued throughout the day. Such people may not have the energy to do any work. So most of the time to gain energy they may either be eating or taking rest. People who are a little weak do not indulge in much physical activities. They don’t even do exercises out of fear that it will make them more weak.
So sitting idle, overeating and not exercising may result in weight gain. Taking iron supplements has got no relation with gaining weight. A sudden weight gain could also be because a person has low thyroid or some problem of hormonal imbalance. Sometimes even wrong choices of food, poor lifestyle, bad habits can lead to an increase in weight gain.
So instead of blaming it on the iron supplements the best thing would be to consult a doctor and see what the real problem is. Correct diagnosis of the problem at the right time can help the person recover fast from their ailments. Sometimes even poor digestion can lead to weight gain. Hence it is a myth that taking iron supplements lead to weight gain.
Stress and depression are other factors that can lead weight gain. Most people continue with their own medication thinking that their weight gain is a result of too much consumption of iron supplements. But in reality the problem could be occurring because of something else. Such people should not waste time and must see a doctor immediately.
