How To Stop Binge Eating
October 15, 2009
Many of us mindlessly tend to binge over some or other unhealthy food. Many of us have this problem. Binge eating is probably one of the main reason for obesity in our country. Well, the good news is there are some easy and simple steps to overcome binge eating.
There are three types of people who are associated with unhealthy eating habits. First type is the one who eat from their eye – they generally try to fill their plate with more foods than they can actually eat. Another type is who eat with their brain – they are generally obsessed with dieting. And the last group is one who eat with their heart – they are normally emotional people and to hide their emotion they try to cover it up with layers of food.
Many studies have concluded the fact that major triggers for binging are loneliness, stress and anxiety, rage, sadness and depression, and premenstrual syndrome. Some eat because of boredom, some eat because they are habituated of snacking and some eat without any reason.
Here are some simple and easy solutions that will help you in stopping binge eating.
Exercise daily: Many people will not like this bit of advice, but exercise works great for our body. Figure out exercise that you can do daily and list down the benefits of the exercise that you will derive out to get you motivated. Exercise daily for at least 20-30 minutes.
Drink ample amount of water: One of the simplest ways to stop binge eating is drinking a glass of water instead of eating. If the desire to eat still persists then have another glass of water and so on. If required drink water till there is no room left in your stomach. Remember, you need to drink only water and don’t replace water with soda, or can juice or with any other beverages. If you want to have any other thing apart from water then have fresh fruit juice without any added sugar. Avoid any sort of sugary drink, as these drinks will make you hungry soon.
Don’t store junk foods: Many of us just love to store junk foods in our kitchen. Junk foods such as nachos, chips, chocolate, cookies, etc. can be easily found in anyone’s kitchen. Avoid these junk foods. Junk foods just have a catastrophic effect on your waistline and health. If you have craving for these junk foods then have fruits or vegetables sticks. Junk foods are too rich in calories and fat and the more you eat these foods, more weight you will put on.
Postpone craving: Try to postpone craving for food. Suppose you crave for a piece of cookie, or whole jar of cookies. Nothing stops you from eating it. But take sometime before you have it. Say, wait for the TV ad to finish, or say to inner-self that I will eat after two minutes and keep postponing it. By doing this the craving will fizz out and you may end up eating less or eating nothing. Take baby steps and sooner you will have will of fire.
