However, at times too much of calorie count and calorie information makes eating into a number game instead of a pleasurable part of the life.
Well the truth is that all of us need calories. We need calorie to exist, its impossible to survive with calories and we need calories to breath. Our biggest regular calorie cost is called RMR (Resting Metabolic Rate), calories we require to just exist. Name any body function and you need calories for that. You need calories for thinking, breathing, kidney function, heart beat and even to dream we need calories.
So by now you must have realized that how important calories are for us. Muscles cells require calories even while resting. Moreover, eating food, talking, sitting, climbing stairs, walking, sleeping, surfing the internet and watching TV all burn calories beyond the RMR requirement.
How much calories do we need?
The calorie requirement differ from person to person based on the person’s age, gender, level of physical activities, height, weight, etc. Every individual needs different amount of calories to sustain. However, you can calculate an equation to estimate your calorie needs. One of the most accurate and widely used equations is Mifflin-St. Joer equation.
Nut before using this equation you just need to take care that your weight should be in Kilograms and not in pounds, Height should be in centimeters and not in inches. The equation is 9.99 *weight + 6.25*height – 4.92*age. Men are required to add 5 after getting the result and women should subtract 161. The total you will get will be your approx calories per day for RMR. Apart from the RMR calories, we also need some extra calories for exercise and daily activities.
