How Do High Protein Diet Helps In Weight Loss

A protein rich diet can assist in losing weight although for reason not earlier foreseen by many weight loss experts and dieters. It’s a known fact that low carbohydrates and high protein diet facilitates in burning more calories at the time of gluconeogenesis, a process when our body converts protein to glucose.

However, many studies have indicated that the amount of energy burned in that process is insignificant.

Lots of Atkins diet followers believe that extra energy is lost in the urine when in ketosis. A metabolic condition experienced generally on high protein diet. However, again many researches have indicated that there is no great difference in loss of energy in urine among high protein diet and low protein diet followers.

So how do protein rich diet helps in weight loss

Atkins diet followers believed that they had best of both the worlds, i.e. the ability to have high fat food as well as ability to have protein rich food as much as desired whilst losing weight quicker and faster as compared to conventional and usual low fat diets.

On high protein diet, the weight loss is quick and fast during initial stages driven by loss of body fluid. Carbs and protein both are known to hold water in cells, however, throughout high protein diet there is a net loss of carbs and protein stores are almost empty. When lost from the body carbs and protein draw water from the body and they cause loss in weight. But there is hardly any loss in fat stored in our body. Fat are still intact and weight loss is just because of loss of excess water from our body.

Regardless of loss in body fluid, high protein diets helps in losing weight after initial stages too. With the help of high protein diet one end up consuming fewer calories even though Atkins rich protein advocates they eat whatever they feel like. Protein act like a appetite controller thus controlling hunger pangs get easier.

As there are less variety of food available which are extremely rich in protein, eventually high protein diet restrict food choices. Studies have indicated that having same food at every meals encourage people to eat less. People generally tend to eat more when there is wide variety of food available. So less variety of food means less consumption and less calorie intake thus helping in weight loss.
