How Alcohol Influences Your Diet

Do you know that if you don’t eat anything during the day, in order to reduce the calories intake to lose weight, and if you have an alcoholic drink in the evening then your whole effort is in vain.

As we all know that liver is one of the important organs that help in burning fat. If you drink alcohol, then it metabolizes your liver. As soon as alcohol enters your body it gains priority. As you drink alcohol, your liver will try to burn the alcohol first, which leads to increase of fatty acid in your body.

In simple word, your body will try to use calories from alcohol before the calories from the fats that is already present in our body. This way your body will store fats for later consumption, leading to extra weight.

The calories derived from alcohol are empty calories, without nutritional value. If you really want to lose weight then you have to avoid empty calories. Like alcohol, colas are also rich in empty calories. If you mix your alcoholic drink with soft drink, you can imagine the effect it will create in your body. Alcohol also drains out liquid from our body and effect the liquid balance of our body.

If you are under influence of alcohol, then you tend to urinated more frequently, leading to loss of water and other vital fluid from our body. To quench the thirst, you tend to drink more alcohol and this vicious circle continues. When you lose fluid you also tend to lose vital nutrients such as magnesium, zinc, calcium and potassium. Alcohol also hinders the absorption and processing of vital vitamins such as Vitamin B, A and D

If you are on a diet, then you have completely give up alcohol as it increases the number of calories that you may need to burn and it also slow down the metabolic rate, hence hindering your weight loss goal.

Still, if you are following your diet and you may have to go for a party where you may have to booze then here are some points that you can take care of. Avoid sweet alcoholic beverages as it is rich in sugar and calories. Avoid wines as it also rich in sugar and calories. If you want to have something, have dry red wine as it contains fewer calories as compared to white wine. Drink sufficient amount of water to avoid dehydration.
