Glycemic Index Diet, An Effective Way To Lose Weight

As we all know that the glucose is the main source of energy for our energy. The glycemic index diet is based on the speed at which our body can consume the food and obtain glucose from the food. The underlying principle of this diet is if you have to lose weight you should consume foods which has low glycemic index.

The low glycemic index diet is best for people who are suffering from diseases such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes.

To lose weight, you should avoid having foods that are high glycemic index as these foods makes you hungry and eventually you end up eating more. On the other hand foods with a low glycemic index make you feel full and so you tend to eat less.

Foods that are low in glycemic index are fruits, vegetable and low fat dairies. Only thing you need to take care is you have design your meal in such a way that it consists only of low glycemic foods. It is recommended that you should consume foods that have glycemic index of 50 or less than 50.

During the first three months of low glycemic diet, you have to take care of the glycemic index of the carbs that you eat. It has to be fewer than 50. So, this means that you have to completely avoid high carbs foods. Avoid eat sweets too as this is very high on glycemic index.

However, after three months you can have foods that have a glycemic index of more than 50. But make sure you eat them with vegetables and fruits. At times you are allowed to have food with glycemic index of more than 70. You should never combine foods that are high in glycemic index and fatty foods.

Here is the list of foods with glycemic index

Food with low glycemic index: Dark chocolates, soya, beans, onion, cucumber, spinach, tomato, avocado, broccoli, lettuce, pepper, cherries, olive.

Food with medium glycemic index: Banana, orange, grapefruit, grapes, apricots, brown rice, apple juice, carrot juice, whole grain cereals.

Food with high glycemic index: Potatoes, soft drinks, junk foods, pizza, chips, boiled rice, chocolate, sweets, white bread, doughnuts, pineapple, raisins.
