Fitness Barriers

It isn’t easy to stick to a regular workout program, there are many demons like boredom, time, injury, lack of confidence which help you quit working out.  All you need to do is be a little practical if you want to overcome these so called fitness barriers.

Demon#1: “Lack of Time”: It is challenging to take out some time from your busy schedule for exercise but it isn’t impossible. If you can’t take out 30-60 minutes at a stretch, try squeezing out at least 10-15 minutes in different hours of the day for a brisk walk. These shorts spurts placed across the day are beneficial as well.  Get up a little early than usual and start your hectic and stressful day with a fun and de-stress workout.

Demon#2: “I’m Bored” : It’s natural that you might become bored of the same exercise routine, your body also stop showing great results after you have followed an exercise routine for couple of weeks.  Choose activities that you enjoy like swimming, dancing, rock climbing (the options are several). Learn new ways of working out.

Demon#3: “I’m self conscious”: Always remind yourself how good exercise and working out is for your overall fitness, treat yourself well when you achieve a health goal. If you are uncomfortable in a group, exercise alone.

Demon#4: “I’m Tired”: Not working out will leave you all the more drenched out and without energy. A good workout especially in the morning adds the extra dose of energy needed. Make sure that you take a stroll around your office post lunch. Have an early dinner and try and hit the bed at a decent hour.

Demon#5: “I’m just too lazy”: Set small and realistic targets for yourself which don’t bog you down. Try taking a walk around the block at an hour you are feeling better.

Demon#6: “I’m not an Athlete”: Try working out naturally, go for walks, boating with friends, swimming the options are immense. If you are worried of developing an athletic body, leave that behind, you won’t do that until your workout is aimed at developing such a physique.

Demon#7: “Once Bitten, Twice Shy”: If you have failed to get the desired results through workout in the past, don’t give up. Exercise has to be consistent to have consistent results. See what went wrong, consult an expert,  set realistic goals for yourself.

Demon#8: “I can’t afford workouts”: Workouts don’t mean elite club memberships, if you have made you mind try strength training at home using dumbbells and resistance bands. Buy a workout video and enjoy home workouts, go out walking, biking etc. Take the stairs and skip the elevators. You will have immense choice and a great workout.

Demon#9: “What if I get hurt?” Start right and join a low-medium intensity beginner workout program. Under expert guidance and precautions you wouldn’t hurt yourself.

Demon#10: “No Support”: Remind people around you how beneficial exercise is. Stick to the routine and show them what regular exercise can do. Involve them in family sports. If necessary have a one to one conversation with them about your feelings.
