Facts About Detox Diet

As the name suggest, detox diet aims to eliminate chronic diseases that generally develop due to exposure to numbers of toxins such as mercury, smoke, smog, cigarette smoke, pesticides, food additives, etc. The hypothesis behind this diet is that as due to exposure to toxins, we begin to witness outward effects such as cellulite, weight gain, wrinkles and bloating.

Detox diet may differ widely, depending on whose advice you follow. However, one of the aggressive approaches requires that you should fast before undergoing this particular diet. You have to go for three days diet, without eating anything, only are only allowed to have water. During these three days, due to lack of carbs and energy you may feel bit low and weak, hence it is suggested that you should keep your activities to minimum and also avoid exposing yourself to any extreme climates. So, here is mention how detox diet works:

Phase #1: The Monotrophic Diet

After the first three days of fast, you next step would be to put yourself on a monotrophic diet. Under this diet you are simply allowed to have just one type of fruit with every meal. For example, suppose you have opted to have melon in breakfast then you should only have melon for breakfast. For lunch you just eat grapefruit or oranges. Before dinner time, have a glass of carrot or tomato juice and in dinner have just one type of fruit. So you can eat as much of fruits you want, just take care that at one meal you have only one type of fruit. This diet is supposed to be maintained for at least 7 days.

Phase #2: The Raw Food Regimen

The next phase is for almost a month long and during this phase you are allowed to have fruits, but unlike first phase you can have several types of fruits in a meal. While under this diet many people have felt nauseous, or lightheaded or weak and tired at some point of time, due to the process of throwing out of toxins that have accumulated in our body over years.

While following this diet for approximately forty days, which is primarily composed of fruits and water may not be healthy. Even though with this diet you may meet the calorie requirements, but due to absence of essential nutrients can cause your body to become less healthy. So, before taking up this diet consult your doctor and give due consideration.
