Exercise for Globetrotters

Many people spend their entire life travelling, whether they do it for business or pleasure; one thing that is common is that most of them neglect taking care of the exercise and health while they are on the go. The fact is that if you have made up your mind to workout then wherever you travel you can exercise.

Managing expectations: You might not take out time and exercise as you do at home, while you are travelling; the fact also is that it would be easier to stay fit while you travelling, if you have your basics right.
The modification in the atmosphere and your routine will be beneficial for you. You might not do the workout at the intensity you did at home but the change will show better results.

Pick activities of your choice: Place realistic and achievable goals for yourself on the travel. Pick a souvenir or gift for the goals achieved. Try and figure how to fit fitness in your packed regime. You can walk to your destination instead of taking a cab, you can wake up half an hour before your usual time and can take a 15-20 minutes brisk walk (make sure you do that frequently throughout the day)

Planning: Choose a hotel which has a swimming pool, gym, yoga area or any activity centre. You can rent a bicycle and explore the new place. Make sure whenever you are going out, you carry a passport or i-card and let you family or colleague about the same.

Pack Smart & Right: Carry your exercise equipment and some footwear if possible. You also need to carry your t-shirt, lowers, sports bra, socks and if you are going to some cold place carry a fleece top. If there is a DVD player in your hotel room you can carry exercise videos.

Sightseeing : Go Sightseeing on the foot you would not only explore the city better, you would enjoy and remain healthy.

Creativity is the Key: If you are stuck in accommodations without any option carry some dumbbells or a resistance band or a skipping rope. Carry your laptop and a couple of exercise videos.

Overlook expense account: This is a problem with business travellers, as they have this expense account mentality. They think if they workout they would be wasting their company’s expenses. Don’t you workout at home while you are associated with the same organization.

Eating On the Go: Some people think it is alright to eat what they want when they are travelling, don’t get into that trap, and make sensible choices even when you eat on a trip. You can treat yourself only once in a while like you do at home.

Explore Dining options: Before you leave for dining out make sure you have researched on the various options available and the menu they offer.

Carry snacks like granola bar and small sized carrots with you so that you don’t fall in the unhealthy snacks trap. Drink ample water to keep yourself full.

Spending Calories: We don’t ask you to ignore all the local delicacies, but avoid having cheese burger or fries as you get them anywhere in the world.

Make sure you check your portion sizes while enjoying your food. Split the entree or just ask for a small serving.

Make Business dinners sensible : You don’t need to indulge when entertaining clients, you attention should be on the client but don’t neglect the food you eat.
