Effective Ways to Prevent Thanksgiving Day Weight Gain

Thanksgiving is a time when we are thankful for what we have. We may be thankful to our children, our parents, our families, our relatives, our friend, our happiness, our health and our ability to wear skinny jeans.

Thanksgiving Day can also be looked as a biggest calorie fest during the year and on this day we tend to indulge in food and more food. But the question here is can eating on just one day can create much damage. Well, one day may not damage much, but it can lead to cascading effect of unrestrained eating habits starting from Thanksgiving Day until New Years.

Here are a few guidelines and suggestions that may help you to enjoy your holiday and at the same time will keep your waist line in check:

Do not ever skip your breakfast:

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and skipping it is not a good idea. Breakfast helps in increasing metabolic rate and eventually helps in controlling weight. So have a healthy breakfast daily.

Plan what you will be eating before and after Thanksgiving Day:

Try to have light meals and lesser calories a couple of days before and after Thanksgiving Day. You may end up having calorie rich food in Thanksgiving Day but this can be negated by the lesser calories you take before and after Thanksgiving Day. Remember! Your weekly average calorie intake is more important than just one day’s calorie intake. If you are careful about what you are eating you can easily average out your calorie intake.

Watch your portion:

Best way to so is by using smaller plates. Smaller plates means smaller portion which eventually leads to reduced calorie intake.

Don’t deprive yourself:

The idea here is not to keep away from food, but just reduce the amount of food.

Avoid overeating:

Do not overstuff yourself, eat till you are 80 per cent full. One way to avoid overeating is through eating slowly. If you will eat slowly you will be full soon. You can also have zero-calorie drink in between bites to avoid overeating.

Keep moving:

Move around, do the dishes, take a walk, do any thing but try to keep moving. This will help you in burning extra calories and proper digestion of food.

Have lots of water:

Drink lots of water to flush out toxins from your body. It will also help in digestion of food and will keep you away from dehydration. If we drink lesser amount of water, our body tends to hold it and our weight can increase by 4-6 pounds due to water retention.
