Eating Late and Weight Gain

A very common myth that is highly accepted in the weight loss circle is that if you eat late you would be more prone to weight gain. As not everyone’s schedule is similar we can’t expect them to follow the same schedule as far as their diet is concerned.

Some of us prefer eating around 6pm, while others find it much better to eat as late as 10:30 pm. Nothing so far has proved that one group is slimmer than the other. This is though a myth, but it is not completely void of any facts or small amount of truth associated with it.

If you have to eat late at night your choice of meal should be lighter as far as calories are concerned, you can choose food like salads, soups etc. The fact is that time doesn’t matter much if you choose to make your meals healthy and nutritious. If you have to eat really late in the night you have to be even more particular about your diet and choice of food. You should opt for eating 5-6 mini meals in a day, have extremely light dinner; you can make your breakfast heavy and healthy instead.

Many researches have been conducted to see whether this myth has any proof or ground. These researches haven’t proved anything concrete as yet. If you eat the same food in the afternoon or late at night, your metabolism would be affected in the same manner.

Still as we mentioned this myth has some amount of truth associated with it. If you have your last meal around 6pm and then go out for a walk or gyming you would be able to burn the calories you consumed in the last meal. You would be burning more calories and hence few calories would be stored in your body as fat. If you are amongst people who eat pretty late in the night most probably you wouldn’t be getting into any exercise or physical activity post dinner; hence more calories would be changed into fat.

Hence you wouldn’t gain weight by eating late, if you exercise after dinner. One should still prefer to eat last meal late in the evening, before 7 pm. Make your breakfast and lunch healthy but filling and make your dinner light.
