Carbohydrates are the first reservoir of energy. They are the first to be used in human body. If we feed on simple carbohydrates, the carbohydrates will be depleted very fast. This will increase the craving for food and will increase the frequency of feeding.
It is better to feed on complex carbohydrates, to meet the energy requirements of body. Such diet includes fruits, vegetables and grains, like oats and barley. Eating of fast foods like those containing white bread, pastries and chocolates does not suffice this purpose.
Proteins can be a very good source of energy. They are also an important for building muscles and bones. It is very important to choose right source of protein, because some foods which are rich in protein are also rich in saturated fatty acids. One must avoid cheese, marbled beef and pork rich in fat. Food such as lean pork, fish, tender beef and chicken are quite useful.
Oils are rich source of fatty acid. Fatty acid may be both saturated and unsaturated. Saturated fatty acids are often associated with many diseases like hypertension and many heart diseases including strokes. It is advisable to use oils which are rich in unsaturated fats. Olive oil, flax seed and hemp seed oil can be very useful in this regard.
While consuming processed and canned foods, it is very important to go through the labels and constituents. One must avoid such foods which are rich in saturated fats. One must consume food which is rich in lower fats and food such as yoghurt. Food containing cream bases, such as mayonnaise and butter must be strictly avoided.
One must also include food like salads, fruits and nuts in the diet. These foods swell up on coming in contact with water and thus maintain a feeling of fullness in stomach and reduce the craving for food. Thus one must consume them frequently.
