Dealing With Weight Gain After Menopause

Just how women struggle to cope with their sudden weight gain after pregnancy they are faced with the same struggle when they reach their menopause. When women reach their menopause they begin to gain a lot of weight.

It is believed that women generally gain as much as 10-15 pounds on reaching menopause. And the weight is mostly gained at the abdomen region. Besides weight gain women also experience a lot of other changes in their body as well.

Like for some women their skin becomes extremely dry, some women face rapid bone loss. However it is extremely crucial to remember that the after effects of menopause are different for different women.  Some women might not even go through some of the changes that have been mentioned above. Hence it is best to consult a doctor when a woman reaches her menopause. But what is common in all women after they reach their menopause is that their metabolism decreases rapidly.

Their ability to burn calories reduces making it all the more difficult for them to lose all the weight that begins to gather around their belly. This if not taken seriously can result in serious health conditions like diabetes, cancer, heart diseases and so on. But there is a solution for every problem and there certainly is a way by which women can control their weight gain. It is important for menopausal women to reduce their calorie intake.

As mentioned earlier because their ability to burn calories is not as effective as it used to be couple of years ago they need to reduce the amount of calories they are in taking to stop adding more kilos to their belly. They should strictly avoid junk and unhealthy food. Fruits, vegetables and a well-balanced diet are what menopausal women should strictly adhere to. It is also important that they start eating food in small portions. And menopausal women should not even consider starving as this will add more problems to their weight.

It is important that they start indulging in physical activities like walking, jogging, swimming and so on to keep the calories away from them.  They should also drink lots of water to prevent their body from getting dehydrated. All these simple steps can help a menopausal women live healthily without worrying too much about weight problems.
