Dealing With Post Workout Sore
You have now decided to join a gym and make a lifetime commitment to health. You are full of excitement, enthusiasm and have great hopes of losing weight and toning your body; in this process you are ready to push yourself beyond your limits.
If you do that you will have to pay for it, no doubt, exercise has many benefits but if you overdo it, you can injure yourself. All your muscles will pain and you wouldn’t be able to workout properly.
What are the causes of Post Workout Soreness?
If you have started working out your muscles are unconditioned and aren’t used to any resistance. These muscles when stretched cause minor tears. The tears would be mended and muscles will eventually become toned and strong. In the process, your overworked muscles tend to become swollen and inflamed, this might lead to pain and soreness. Delayed muscle soreness, appears around 12 to 48 hours post a strenuous work out and this soreness can last for a week.
Should Exercise be continued post soreness?
You might think you should completely stop after you develop soreness; but this is definitely not advisable. Your sore muscles would hurt more if you stop working out. You shouldn’t get into strenuous workout, try yoga, stretches etc.
Treating Post Workout Soreness
Add a cup of Epsom Salt in tub full warm water and take a nice relaxing bath. The magnesium present in salt helps in managing your swelling and it would also relax sore muscles. You can also try a post workout massage this can be extremely relaxing and soothing, it would also help you handle delayed muscle soreness.
Medications
There are many medicines which you can use, but studies show natural relief from soreness is the best way to manage it.
How can we prevent getting post workout sore?
If you want to avoid post workout soreness you shouldn’t exercise too much and push yourself too much quickly. Your muscles would require some time to adapt to the post workout stress. You can obviously work hard, but remember to build up intensity gradually. If you want a toned slim body, you wouldn’t get it in just one day.
