Weight loss becomes an even more important issue for women who are expecting or who have just had a baby. You can’t expect losing weight instantly, and you will have to work hard to get your old figure back. There is good news for all of you. You must be glad to know that breastfeeding needs an extra 500 calories in just 1 day.
Some moms can even eat a nice healthy meal while they are breastfeeding. Some moms breastfeed their children for the 1st even the 2nd year. Moms feel breastfeeding their infant is the best way to burn the extra calories and weight.
This all comes at a little price though, especially during teething months. Still you shouldn’t forget that your weight loss will be extremely good for your health. In a recent survey done, more than 50% women feel they lose weight while breastfeeding, the rest lose the stubborn few extra pounds as their child weans. Once you have a child you take a little time to get back on your normal diet.
If you have gained so much weight that breastfeeding wouldn’t be suffice, then you should aim at losing weight gradually. You need to be very conscious of what you eat and count every calorie. As your baby needs extra nutrients so do you, you should aim at healthy eating and not dieting. You should try eating lots of fruits and veggies and eat frequently every day. Your diet should also include fibre, chicken, fish, eggs, milk and milk products.
People have a myth that exercise would make breastfeeding difficult but this is just a myth. Moderate intensity workout will help new moms get back on track. Workout is good for your mental and physical wellbeing.
If you have started losing weight due to breastfeeding, you can lose more weight by changing your diet; your best bet should be losing up to 1.5 pounds in a week. Don’t get in to rapid weight loss as this might lessen the supply your milk. You should try start losing weight only when your baby is 2-2.5 months old.
