Body Image

Have you noticed people around you eating away to glory, all they consume is unhealthy stuff and they don’t seem to care, you on the other hand spend most of your time in counting calories and exercising, still the moment you look at yourself in the more, the only thing you want to do is run a extra mile on the treadmill.

When you walk in public, you become conscious about your weight and presume people around you discussing the same. This is how we perceive our appearance and the body image that is developed in our mind. Body images for men and women are very different.

There are  themselves people who are exceptions, but this is the general trend is that men look at themselves more slim than they actually are and women see themselves as more bulky. This backs up the lack of interest shown by most men in weight loss and health related issues.

What causes men and women to behave so differently as far as the body image is concerned; is it the society, media, culture or simply the difference in the psyche of both men and women in general? The reasons can be more than one but the fact is there exists a very strong and evident difference in the perception of body weight, particularly body image amongst both the sexes.

This leads to the difference in the way men and women treat weight loss issues. Don’t you see more women being targeted in weight loss advertisement vis-a-vie men? This makes a whole lot of sense as the target group consists of a larger number of female than male clients.

There are many other reasons besides our body image which forces you to shed those pounds and lead a healthy life. Men should understand that if they are overweight it is extremely critical for them to lose those extra pounds as they are equally prone to health risks like heart problems, diabetes, stroke, etc. So if your male ego doesn’t let you see the unhealthy side of you, you should take your health and start working towards a fitter future.
