Blend Pilates and Yoga to Yogilates
August 11, 2009
There are so many forms of new exercises coming up and they are being developed by experts to add variety in our workout. One such form has been developed by combining two very popular forms of exercise Yoga and Pilates, developed in 1997.
Yoga comes from the Indian tradition which focuses on spirituality, strength and flexibility. Pilates on the other hand was formed by a German, with its focus on strength building in the abs which is the core of our body. The other similarity is the philosophy of both is very natural. Your mind remains very focused and your entire body is integrated in one way.
What is common is the involvement of some specific postures and emphasis on the right breathing pattern, both of them stress on a meditative mind.
As the name suggests yogilates is a blend a concoction of both yoga and Pilates. It has gained so much popularity especially in the US.
The Pros
Yogilates contains of around 40 poses which includes sternum, back and leg lifts; leg circles, besides some yoga postures like Sun Salutation, Down Facing Dog, Warrior, and the Meditation Posture etc.
Yogilates emphasises on spirituality, while performing be in the present as far as your thinking goes and to be grateful for the simple things like moving, breathing, enjoying real beauty within you, etc.
In the initial phase of your yogilates you might see more emphasis on postures, breathing etc. like in yoga but as you move ahead and become more advance you use your abs muscles more and incorporate Pilates. It is formed by a beautiful flow between yoga and Pilates movements. By mixing these two highly popular forms of workout you can take immense benefits of both.
Not everybody likes or approves of the hybrid yogilates approach. As they think it mixes two very good forms of workout into something both of them aren’t.
Yogilates works well with people who haven’t tried either in its purest form.
Yoga and Pilates are truly amazing as individual forms of workout but by blending both of them you end up getting nothing.
Though it is believed that Yogilates works for people who aren’t very young and flexible and it helps them stay fit. It isn’t an intimidating form, it is more approachable than both the other forms taken individually.
