Avoid Empty Calories to Lose Weight

We must have heard or read somewhere about empty calories and many people believe that empty calories are low calories and safe to have. On the contrary, empty calories do not connote a food that is low in calories, but a calorie rich food that has very little or no nutritional value.

For example, a candy bar and a breakfast fruit bar may contain almost equal amount of calories. The fruit bar on one hand has some minerals, vitamins, and fibre whilst candy bar just carries calories and no nutritional value.

Now you can consume one or the other for the same amount of calories, but you can now decide which one can be more useful to you. Which food can provide you with more health benefits and more energy throughout the day? Which food can be processed in a better way to provide you body with important nutrients and more importantly which food can be processed right away into fat?

Now whenever you come across any food that is packed with empty calories then be assured that it can be full of trouble.

Empty calorie rich food is often labeled as junk food. Food that is rich in empty calories is mentioned below:

Soft drinks: Flavored drinks, Sodas, Soft drinks.

Fast food: Hot dogs, French Fries, Burger, Fried chicken and other food that are fried in fattening oils.

Candy: Gums, Chocolate bars, Mint, hard candies.

Alcohol: Hard liquors, Wine, and Beer.

Olios: Shortening, Butter, Margarine, and other spreads.

Other food such as white rice and white bread contains empty calories too.

If you want to lose weight and want to avoid calories that you should totally avoid the above listed food. Make thoughtful replacement, if you want to eat healthy food and want to restrict your calorie intake. For example, instead of having candy bar as a sweet snack try to have fruits.

Avoid white bread and use brown or whole wheat grain bread for your sandwich. Try to have brown rice instead of white rice and have water instead of soft drink or soda. By doing this you can be assured that you have reduced calorie intake, especially empty calorie intake.

Most jellies and jams are packed with empty calories and they are high on sugar content too. If you want to have a spread, do checks the label too see what you are eating. If possible try to avoid such jams and jellies. Homemade apple butter can have more nutritional value attached as compared to readymade fruit jam or jellies.

Such small substitution will help you in long run, and you can figure out that as the empty calories go away, so will the fat.
