Artificial Sweeteners Make You Overeat

There are two varieties of sugar that are available in the kind of food that we consume. One is the natural sugar which is present in fruits as well as dairy products. The other kind of sugar is the one that is added to processed food.

To avoid weight gain and even to stay healthy we over resort to artificial sweeteners; which we consume in various beverages, desserts, low calorie dishes etc. Sugar when added to food does provide us with a good source of energy, but a study reveals that when we use high amount of sugar substitutes in our food in various forms, it may be a little tricky for our body and sabotage all efforts we put in to losing weight.

Our body counts the calories of food based on the sweetness of the things we consume, artificial sweeteners may just hamper this ability; and make people eat more once they start consuming artificial sweeteners to stay healthy.

Aspartame is one such popularly used artificial sweetener which can be found in brands like Equal, NutraSweet, Spoonful, or Equal-Measure. Aspartame mainly comprises of three types of chemicals namely Aspartic acid, methanol and phenylalanine.  Saccharin which was very popular initially has been abandoned by people as it supposedly caused bladder cancer.

You can avoid artificial sweeteners and still keep the count of sugar intake low, by using products with:

Brown, cane, white or raw sugar
Corn syrup with high fructose
Honey and Molasses
Concentrate of Fruit juice

If you want to reduce sugar intake considerably opt for products with no sugar as well as honey. You can limit your sweet intake to once a week rather than having it daily. Yet another important reduction as far as sugar is concerned can be done by adding 1/2 or 1/3 quantity of honey or sugar than what is suggested.
