What is Binge Eating mean?
Binge eating is an eating disorder called bulimia nervosa, in this state food is taken in large quantity and then the food is regurgitated.
Though binging is common amongst people suffering from Bulimia, it can happen itself. These binging bouts can negatively affect our health as well as our well-being. Binging can lead to serious health issues for instance gruesome obesity and high risk of weight related health issues.
How do we know when we binge?
Difference between binging and normal overeating: While binging we have large quantity of food intake at a time, it is also symbolized by lack of control on the quantity of food intake.
No one has ever categorized what amount of food intake is normal in case of overeating and when does binging come in the picture. When you overeat and there comes a point where you experience a lack of control on what you are eating, can be categorized as binge eating. Some binger eaters might feel they are driven to food and can’t resist the temptation.
The emotions a binge eater experiences through and post eating more food differs from high amount of pleasure to sheer disgust. This is again a major dissimilarity between binge eating and overeating – the sense of revulsion or disgust doesn’t make binge eaters stop eating, whereas a person who overeat will listen to that voice. A binge eater (as suggested above) won’t be able to control his/her craving.
Other common occurrence that tends to be synonymous to binge eating is when you start eating very rapidly without properly chewing the food. Binge eaters look at food as the core focus of one’s life and feel it is one of the most important factors of life.
Binge eaters are inclined to consume more food often as compared to those people who go through occasional sessions of overeating. Still you should be aware that snacking all through the day doesn’t come under binge eating. Binge eaters are often driven to eat because of emotional issues.
